A simple recipe for high-protein oats muffins, perfect for breakfast or snacking

In today’s busy life, we all look for simple, tasty and healthy recipes that fit into our daily routine. One such recipe is these healthy protein oats muffins with chocolate chips. These muffins are perfect for breakfast, a pre-workout snack, or any time of day. They are also an excellent low-calorie treat that satisfies your sweet tooth while providing essential nutrients. Below, I’ll share the recipe for these delicious muffins, along with the benefits of oats and information on their protein content.

Why oats?

Oats are one of the healthiest choices for breakfast and here’s why:

  1. Oats are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. They contain beta-glucan, a type of soluble fiber that helps lower cholesterol and stabilize blood sugar levels.
  2. Oats contain about 11-15% protein, making them an excellent source of this important macronutrient, especially for vegetarians and vegans.
  3. Due to their high fiber content, oats provide a long-lasting feeling of fullness, which can help control appetite and maintain a healthy weight. Oats can be used in various dishes, from classic porridge to smoothies, cookies and muffins.
Recipe for healthy protein muffins with chocolate chips

Ingredients:

  1. 200g rolled oats
  2. 1 egg
  3. 150ml cup milk
  4. 2 tablespoons of honey
  5. 1 tsp baking powder
  6. 1 tsp cinnamon
  7. 100g cup chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients except chocolate chips in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to thicken due to the oats. If the mixture becomes too thick, add a little more milk as needed.
  3. Stir in chocolate chips with a spoon.
  4. Grease a muffin tin with butter or oil and fill each cup with the mixture.
  5. Bake at 180°C for about 20 minutes. For a firmer texture, bake a little longer.
Personalization of the recipe

One of the best things about this recipe is its flexibility. You can add almost anything to these muffins. Here are a few ideas:

  1. Fruit: Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or apple chunks will blend perfectly and add natural sweetness.
  2. Nuts and seeds: Walnuts, almonds, flaxseeds, or chia seeds will add crunch and additional nutrients.
  3. Spices: Add a touch of nutmeg, ginger, or vanilla for extra flavor.
Nutritional value and benefits

A key feature of this recipe is its protein content. Oats, egg and milk make this combination protein-rich. Depending on the type of milk used (cow’s, almond, soy, etc.), the protein content may vary. An egg contributes approximately 6 grams of protein, while a cup of oats contains about 5 grams of protein. Each muffin can provide around 4-5 grams of protein, which is excellent for maintaining muscle mass and aiding in post-workout recovery.

Since they don’t contain refined sugars and use honey as a natural sweetener, these muffins are low in calories compared to traditional muffins. This makes them an excellent choice for those watching their calorie intake but still craving something sweet.
